"Struggle With Injury Build My Strength For Success"
Vidit Vaghela is the first player from Gujarat to win
National Singles Boys under 18 title in the recent times. It is a dream come
true for the young lad. He deserves it. Hailing from a middle class family started
his tennis at the age of 5 in the year of 2001 and the reason for him to join
was the earthquake of 2001. A talented lad showed the early signs of great
competitor and was rightly motivated and shaped up into a good junior player by
his basic coach Bharat Goyal at St. Xaviers Loyola Clay Courts. In his first
tournament under 8 he became the runners up in the state tournament and from
then onwards he never looked back with the help of great parenting support
system.
He
had an excellent run in the state tournaments under 10 and 12 performing with
authority. In those years the recent AITA structure was not prevalent. The
initial match showed that he was very brutal and aggressive in his games not
leaving any stone unturned. His game style and attitude showed the spark of a champion
and that he is a ‘
great come-backer’.
Injuries
are part and partial of sports persons life. Vidit is no exception. He had
serious elbow injury and the sports Doctors declared that he wont be able to
play tennis anymore. Champions never give up, champions never quit. Ordinary
people have number of reasons to quit,
but the champion has only one reason to continue. Vidit never gave up, started
physiotherapy treatment and after 10 months of treatment he returned back on
court with a bang. He came with a bang because he was never detached from the tennis court
mentally or physically. He use to go to tennis court regularly and knowingly
unknowingly had a great session of visualization tennis which kept the fire
burning. He says, “ I felt it, smelled
it, actually saw my self playing, perspired it, it was actual madness I felt
and tried to control myself, I was sometimes scared what was happening to me but I enjoyed
a lot.”
On
his come back on tennis court Vidit says, “ I appreciate and thank God, my
parents every single time when I step inside the tennis court”. Under
the able coaching and guidance of the most successful coach of the Gujarat State - Ranjit Thakore (Phone No. 9909913738), Vidit
started training for 4 hours a day excluding 2 hours of physical fitness.
Highly motivated and fire in the belly he has won number of AITA tournaments couple of
ITF Singles & Doubles. He dreams to play one day against Roger Federer
before Rogers retires and also making it to the Indian Davis Cup team. The
stroke he enjoys the most is inside-out forehand (which indicates his great
footwork and aggressive baseline style). In recent development Vidit’s dream
has been fulfilled as he has been selected for the CTL – Champions Tennis
League on the IPL format initiated by the Indian legend Vijay Amritraj. He
dares to dream and now will be rubbing shoulders with the world elite players
and he has learned and will be learning that name of the game is “Winning”.
Believing
in himself, his practice and his coach, Vidit Vaghela played the AITA Men’s Circuit and was
the first Junior from Gujarat under 18 to win the Men’s AITA Title at Ahmedabad. This result sky rocketed
his confidence and he was ready to take on anybody.
He
became the first Gujarat State Junior to
win the National Boys under 18 title after playing qualifying rounds, thus he made
Gujarat Proud, Made his Coach and parents proud and it was a fitting answer for
those in his injury days who were asking him “why you are doing it” and now the
same crowd is asking him “how you did it” Vidit discloses his secret of
becoming the Champion and he quotes “Winning did motivate me but my struggle of
10 months build my strength as a tennis warrior.”
Tennis
is Life ….. other things are just details .....
