The Progression

My son Allan Gomes is a prominent tennis player of the Gujarat State and has number of creditable titles in his name. I have traveled with him a lot. I was given a tip by Mr. C G K Bhupati (Mahesh Bhupati’s father) that “don’t leave your son alone when he goes to play the tournament as from the 32 players there are only two players who are serious about their tennis career, so just find out second one and let your son have his company.” Thank you Mr. Bhupati you are so right – well the tip was given free of charge.

When Allan was around plus 13 years we went and watched number of challengers and futures tournament. We went to Chennai three years in a row to watch the ATP Tournament where we learned lots of good things by watching the pros.

Akhtar Ali Sir, taught Allan how to be gutsy and what it takes your game to next level, well this tip was not free. Akhtar is a great Coach, trainer, personality and a motivator. I have learned number of coaching tips from him; I can still visualize his training session.

I have a very good experience of Hemant Bendre Sir; Allan was with him for four years and he matured into a serious player, I am proud that my son has taken lessons of life and play from such learned coach as a fatherly figure. Till date Allan has something new to say every time about events, tips that happened during their training session. Thank You Sir.

The main Architect of Allan of being a decent tennis player is Mr. V.K.Rawat. He was his basic coach and both of them worked hard as if they were on a MISSION. Rawat sir was then Chief Coach of AGETA and at Presently running SRAG Tennis Academy at Gurukul, Ahmedabad. I was fortunate enough to work honorary with him for a brief period in the evening from 7 to 9.

Allan was also trained for brief period by Mr. Pavan Patel (I rate him the best coach at the local level who had the understanding of international flair and coaching tools).

I was one of the pioneers of Ace Tennis Academy when it used to be run by a Trust, now it has turn to a Pvt. Ltd. It is great Academy where Allan was trained by Mr. Pramesh Modi for couple of years. We had great time, fun and improvement. Akhtar Ali Sir use to also come almost regularly in those days in the summers. Ranjit Thakore the then Chief Coach of Ace Tennis Academy had also put great effort in his practice session.

Keep it up Allan, but the progression must have cost you a fortune as the coaches whom you have named charge very high....... hummmmm, the country may be full of good coaches but are expensive and so it is not my cup of tea... all the best
